Course Overview

Why choose Design and Technology: Textiles Technology?

The specification has been developed to enable candidates to demonstrate their creativity, with making of textile products a vital feature of the candidate’s experience of taking this specification. The specification has been designed directly to enable candidates to move forward from Key Stage 3 Design and Technology and onto GCE Design and Technology: Product Design (Textiles).

You will need to solve problems by using your Research, Design, Planning and Making skills as well as evaluate your work throughout the course.

Exams and Coursework

Unit 1

Written Paper – 2 hours – 120 marks – 40% of final grade

Candidates answer all questions in two sections

Pre-release material issued

Unit 2

Controlled Assessment (Making a product of their choice)

Approximately 45 hours – 90 marks – 60% of final grade

Consists of a single design and make activity selected from a range of board set tasks

Potential Pathways (Post-16)

Product Design – textiles can lead to several DT courses at Post-16.

Potential Career Routes

Technology qualifications are versatile and can lead to many careers, in particular, costume design, seamstress, teacher and working in the media.
