Today, Friday 29th June, 11 teams have been pulling specially modified wheelie bins from West Lakes Academy to Workington Academy. Each Wheelie Bin team is raising money and awareness for their particular local charity including; Bloodbikes, Copeland/Allerdale Citizens Advice, Give us a Break, In Chris’ Memory (Brain Tumour Research), Howgill Family Centre, Special care Baby Unit, Teenage Cancer Trust, Kie Skate Park and Survivors of Bereavement through Suicide (SOBS). At the same time, local schools are doing their part by collecting food to be donated to the local Foodbank.
Whitehaven Academy were proud to be the first stop on the walkers route to Workington, on a particularly hot day. We made sure they were provided with cold bottles of water to see them on to the next stage. All those taking part were certainly in buoyant spirits, and the atmosphere was incredibly positive. Our students raised a huge amount of food and we were delighted to support the teams in the venture and our local community.
