As part of our NuGen Bright Sparks programme, a group of year 8 students visited Heysham Nuclear Power station. They all took part in the Pylon Engineering Challenge and congratulations go to Isla, Madison and Grace who won the challenge by producing the strongest and most efficient pylons. They received a wonderful Science book each as their reward. After donning very orange hi-vis jackets, helmets and safety goggles, the students were taken on a tour of one of the Heysham nuclear reactors. It was incredible to learn all about how the process of nuclear fission was taking place under our feet to produce low-carbon electricity. The students were amazing and both NuGen and EDF were impressed with their interest and enthusiasm.
