The 4th July saw our year 10 students delving into the world of work by meeting employers from around the county, building connections as a team and learning about the local labour market. Employers such as Sellafield, Balfour Beatty, Police, Cumbria County Council, Springboards, The Army and Navy, as well as the University of Cumbria visited the academy and shared valuable information with our students about what their jobs were like, what qualifications were needed and generally encouraging students to stick in to their studies in order to achieve their goals in life. One employer said, “The students were engaging, friendly and enthusiastic and an overall delight to speak to”.
Students also found the day interesting with one student declaring his new love for engineering. These students will be following up this World of Work day with a Work Ready Day in September where they will develop CV writing and interview skills in preparation for their first job.
