Despite working very closely with teachers, unions and senior colleagues in the Trust to arrive at a mutually agreeable outcome to the proposed strike action from the NUT, ATL and NASUWT, I regret to inform you that strikes will go ahead on Thursday 26th January and Friday 27th January 2017.
To minimise educational disruption as much as possible, the school with be open for Year 11 students on both days and a small number of Sixth Form students who have mock exams on Friday. The school will be closed for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 on both days. I’m afraid we will also be rescheduling the Year 9 Parent’s Evening on Thursday 26th January.
We are particularly disappointed with this outcome as we feel we made every effort to arrive at a mutually agreeable solution, including completing significant improvements to the school site over the Christmas break as part of a planned programme of work, and this was a key focus of the strike action.
What is encouraging however, is that we had nearly 100% attendance of Year 11 students during the strike on 10th January. We used the day for really focused intervention, catch up and exam strategy. I received many phone calls from grateful parents regarding the approach and intervention and I’m so proud of our students’ continued commitment and hard work during this challenging time within the school.
I will keep you informed throughout the strike and please remember that my door is always open if you have any concerns or questions.
Please be assured that we are working with Unions to come to a resolution as swiftly as possible, and discussions so far have been very positive.
