Remembrance Day

On Friday the 11th November, The Whitehaven Academy paid respect to all fallen servicemen and women by observing the 2 minutes silence at 11.00am the 11th day of the 11th month.

All 6th Formers and representatives from remaining year groups assembled at the flag mast from which the Union Flag was flying, and after the last post had sounded, Head Boy, Will Templeton read the famous, “they shall not grow old…” eulogy and all of those present were silent for the 2 minutes. At the end of the event, a sombre and moved group of students returned to lessons.

Students and staff at the Academy were all expected to wear a poppy, and £117.29 was raised for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
