The Whitehaven Academy was delighted to host a live screening of the famous Shakespeare play Othello. Over 100 lucky students were fortunate enough to be invited to this special showing which obviously provided a fantastic cultural experience for our students.

English teacher Emma Clarke decided that the students deserved access to one of the finest theatre experience in the world, as it was staged by the RSC, and they were able to truly grasp the splendour of the world created by the Bard.

Students arrived in droves from 8.45, full of excitement as some were experiencing live Shakespeare for the very first time. Throughout the 3 hour traffic of the play, they were entranced by the action especially the rap scene which was an original addition by the director.

The English Department would very much like to praise their students for their engagement with the play and hope they can see how accessible Shakespeare is.
