The Whitehaven Academy hosted the Multi Skills Festival for pupils in KS1 to come together and meet pupils from other schools whilst learning and developing new skills. The festival uses Young Sports Leaders from the academy to instruct and demonstrate 8 fundamental skills stations. The KS1 pupils then have approx. 10 mins per station to try and improve on that skill. The leaders encouraged all pupils to do their best and rewarded effort, skill and behaviour with stickers.
The event provided an opportunity for KS1 pupils to participate in a sport event that is not competitive. For this event we had 6 teams from Bransty, Valley, St James’ Infants and St Bridget’s taking part. 60 pupils in total.
Teachers were impressed with all the Young Sports Leaders and said ‘They had a great manner, related well with all pupils and were a credit to the academy’. One small child told his teacher ‘This is the best school I’ve ever been too’.
