Seven talented members of the reading and writing club represented the Academy today at Spellbinding – Cumbrian Schools’ Book Award Ceremony in Penrith. The students were Neve Tweedie, Alice Ross, Abbi Bennett, Evie Duddy, Jamie-Ellen Dobie, Natalie Bennett and Kyra Williams. Seventeen other secondary schools from across Cumbria attended the event.

The students participated in group debates and discussions about the short-listed novels and subsequently voted for the finalist which was announced during the day – She is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick.  The day was hosted by poet and spoken word performance poet Marvin Cheeseman whom also delivered a poetry workshops to the students in the afternoon.

The event was successful and the students were a credit to the academy in terms of behaviour, interaction with other schools and creative talents so please give the students praise when you see them. In addition I also received positive feedback from the students about their experience and learning today.

Reading and writing club is Friday lunchtime in the Resource Centre for any interested students or staff.
