It’s time to rock!

A team of our students are taking in part in the annual Rock Challenge where students from schools across the globe compete against each other with a 5-8 minute dance or drama performance based on a theme and moral tale of their choice.

The event has been running since 1999 and its aim is to encourage young people to enjoy a healthy life without abusing drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

Students can create whatever set, props, costumes, hair and make-up, lighting, choreography, drama, and soundtrack that they wish for their theme and they have the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people in a professional stage and production environment.

Last year, we won the regional heats in Carlisle and came a very close fourth in the Northern Open Finals in Grimsby. This huge accomplishment meant we were promoted to the status of a Premier League School and will automatically compete in the Premier Finals in Grimsby Auditorium after showcasing at Carlisle.

The Whitehaven Academy Team showcased very professionally at Carlisle on 17th April, gaining  Premier Awards of Excellence in the following areas:

  • Entertainment
  • Soundtrack
  • Choreography
  • Lighting
  • Drama
  • Costume character
  • Visual enhancement
  • Stage crew

The Northern Premier Finals will be at the Grimsby heats on 6th June so we’ll keep you posted!
