Callum Waldron runs marathon to help families in Ethiopia

A student at Whitehaven Academy, Callum Waldron, has raised £265 after completing the 26.2-mile route around Copeland. A keen Thai boxer, Callum trained intensively for the run.

Callum, 15, said: “I wanted to help raise money for those less fortunate then myself. It was very tiring doing the marathon but I was proud of myself at the end!

“I would like to thank all my sponsors, my dad Steven Waldron and all my family for their support.”

The collected money will go towards supporting Angela Longrigg and her daughters Jess and Emily, who are travelling to Ethiopia to work in a family centre for women, and their children, widowed and abandoned as a result of Aids. They will also be helping in a pre-school.

After finishing his marathon in four hours and 20 minutes, Callum marked his achievement by running up the steps to Whitehaven’s Candlestick – a la Rocky Balboa! Well done Callum!
